It has less menthol in the foliage than do the peppermint varieties and a nice, classic spearmint taste and aroma, which makes it the best choice for using fresh, but can also be dried and stored for use in winter drinks and dishes. The young leaves and stems are quite tender, which is a plus for cooking. Cold hardy to -30F, and heat hardy all the way down to the Keys in South Florida, it grows to about 2 feet tall and spreads two feet or more when growing in the ground, or will quickly fill a planting pot of 12-inch diameter or more. The aromatic bright green foliage brings a look and feel of the Mediterranean to the patio or garden, and its lilac colored flowers at the tips of the stems during spring and summer are a bonus for the eyes and the butterflies. 

Growing 1 to 2 feet tall and wide, Mint The Best Spearmint is ideal for growing in the ground or containers, which can be situated indoors or outdoors. It does best in a consistently moist soil so is perfect for low-lying areas with soil that is slow to dry. Mint The Best Spearmint is very easy to grow in a wide range of soils provided the soil stays consistently moist, but not waterlogged. It does not like drought. Though it will tolerate full sun in cool-summer climates, we suggest some filtered sun or shade during the afternoon hours in hot-summer climates, which will cut down on the watering. Excellent for growing in the ground or pots, and can also be grown indoors using a lightweight, well-drained potting mix.
