I was unable to find Clematis armandii locally, and Wilson Bros. had the best price of all the online retailers. My order arrived quickly, it was well packed and in good condition, and was taller than I expected at about 2 feet. I planted it in cold winter weather about 2 weeks ago; one branch near the top died back, but now it appears to have stabilised and a new bud is swelling just under where I clipped off the dead branch. My Armandii arrived quickly and is healthy and beautiful. I’m slightly out of recommended Armandii growing range but have good wind protection and still get sun so thought I’d give it a try. The shipping package was somewhat mangled on arrival, but the plant was ok. Waited a few days and then planted in the yard. It seems to be doing ok, sending out new shoots looking for something to wrap around. Some of the leaves have been partially eaten. Not sure if it is the rabbits in the yard or insects.——————————————-Try some Neem oil for insects and maybe some Rabbit Repellant, you should be able to finds those at you local hardware store. I am extremely happy with the condition of the plants in my order. They arrived well hydrated and were larger specimens than I expected. So far, all of the plants in my order have handled transplanting well (in spite of doing so during the hottest part of the year). We purchased 2 of these vines and were impressed with how “healthy” they were when delivered. They are both healthy but 1 is thriving and growing and the other one still looks healthy but hasn’t seemed to get any larger even though they are only about 4-5 ft apart so in almost identical environment. I’m not worried…but do wish they were growing at same rate. I’m trusting that at some point, this difference won’t be apparent. I probably wouldn’t have made this on-line plant purchase without the excellent customer service I received from the woman I spoke with who went out of her way to make me feel comfortable about doing that….she even went out to plant and took picture and said she would follow up on plant selection! EXCELLENT customer service from your employee!——————————–The other one will probably catch up….if not maybe prune the larger one in th fall to match the other one. Just a photograph on a Facebook gardening page – that was all it took for me to order this beautiful evergreen Clematis. I was more than thrilled to learn a nursery in Georgia had the species in stock. My plants arrived 2 days later: potted, moist, & marvelously packaged to sustain a ride in a delivery truck. They were a nice size & seemed healthy. Luckily there were a few blooms remaining so I was able to smell the sweet fragrance.
