If you’re in USDA Zones 7b to 11 and looking for a super cold hardy perennial Lantana that will fill in large spaces and bloom heavy all season attracting flocks of butterflies and hummingbirds look no further – Miss Huff Hardy Lantana is your choice!
Miss Huff is the largest growing Lantana we offer. She grows to about 5 to 6 feet in height with a spread at least twice that much. If you’re looking for a smaller growing version check out Sonset Hardy Lantana, which grows maybe half the size of Miss Huff over time.Â
The tricolor flower clusters of yellow, pink and orange begin appearing in late spring and continue through the first heavy frost in late fall or early winter. The flowers are irresistible to butterflies and hummingbirds love them too.
Miss Huff Lantana was originally discovered back in the 1980s by our friends at Goodness Grows Nursery near Athens, Georgia. At the time of its discovery, the plant had been growing and returning year after year for over 10 years in Miss Huff’s backyard. We have a specimen growing at our nursery in Zone 8a that has been there now since the early 1990’s. neither the cold, deer or insects or disease have ever touched it!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a large mound 5 to 6 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide, Miss Huff Hardy Lantana is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in sunny landscape borders. Can be massed on sunny slopes for erosion control. A must for butterfly and hummingbird gardens as well as the Xeriscape garden (low water needs.) Also a nice choice for growing in large containers that can be situated on decks, patios and other outdoor living spaces.
Suggested Spacing:Â Â 5 to 6 feet apart for solid hedges and mass plantings; 14 feet or more for space between plantsÂ

Note:Â For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7b, where this Lantana variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
CAUTION!  Avoid pruning hardy Lantana in the fall as doing so almost always ensures death of the plant! Wait until new growth begins to emerge in spring to remove dead stems. A mid-summer shearing is okay.
Hardy Lantana are very easy to grow in most any moist to somewhat dry well-drained soil of average to even poor fertility and full to mostly sun. Constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic. Some light shade is tolerated but plant will grow more dense and produce the most flowers throughout the long flowering season (June to Frost) in full to mostly sun. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for best performance.
