Description
‘Aurea Pendula’ is an upright weeping form of English Boxwood featuring variegated, glossy, dark leaves with creamy soft yellow streaking that glow in lightly shaded locations. It is an upright grower to 5 to 7 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide with unusual drooping side branches. As with other boxwoods, it would respond well to pruning for size control and shaping purposes, though we suggest allowing it to grow naturally so as not to disturb its lovely weeping form. Inconspicuous flowers in spring are fragrant. Best as a single specimen or in spaced groupings in full sun to part shade, though can be used as a hedge as well. A wonderful color and texture contrast just about anywhere in the landscape that gets 4 hours or more of direct sun or all-day lightly filtered sun.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 7 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide depending on pruning, the Golden Variegated Weeping Boxwood is ideal for use as a specimen, in spaced groupings, or use two to frame an entryway. Nice as a natural unclipped hedge, as shearing would spoil its natural weeping form. Can also be grown pots, planters and other containers 12 inches or more in diameter.
Suggested Spacing:Â 3 to 4 feet apart for solid hedge;Â 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Golden Weeping Boxwood is easy to grow when planted right, and in the right spot. It adapts to most soil types and likes full sun or part shade, preferring afternoon shade or filtered sun in warmer climates of the South. It prefers a moist but well-drained soil and when established will only need supplemental water during prolonged periods of dry weather. As with many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic, so make sure the planting site is a well-drained one. Pruning is not necessary though the plant responds well to it for size control and shaping purposes.
